7th OCTOBER 2013 - PROM IN THE FOREST
A concert celebrating the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II with all the pomp of the Proms!
Choral8 joined forces with Meridian Opera and other experienced singers in an evening of music as the climax to the High Beach Festival under the overall production by Katherine Fellowes.
Once again, there was a capacity audience at a venue that is gaining quite a reputation for hosting quality musical events.
Choral8 performed pieces by Robert Parsons, Thomas Tallis and William Boyce and these were contrasted by Meridian opera’s rendition of works by Gilbert and Sullivan and Franz von Suppé; the Coronation Trio performing folk tunes from around the British Isles and sea songs; an amazing rendition of the Dam Buster’s March played on the organ by Chris Mear over a narrative of historic events with the same anniversary recited by Andrew Fellowes and, of course, the full Coronation Chorus performing works by Parry and Handel together with leading the audience in the flag waving second half songs including Land of Hope and Glory and Rule Britannia with Felicity Davies providing the solo, complete with Flag and trident!.
The male chorus delighted up with Katherine’s arrangement of Sea Shanties. Ho Ho Ho!
